Italiks is open to all writers and accepts submissions in every genre - completely free of charge. Since we don't use third-party submission services, we ask that you follow the guidelines below to help keep things running smoothly.
Quick Submission Checklist
Double-space your short story submissions.
Email your submission to editor@italiks.com as a .doc or .pdf attachment.
Include a cover letter with your word count and a third-person bio.
Original, unpublished work only. No multiple submissions, but simultaneous submissions are fine.
AI-generated content is not accepted.

Fiction and Non-Fiction Submissions
We don't have strict formatting rules, but we do ask that your work is double-spaced for readability.
How to submit:
Email your piece as a .doc or .pdf attachment to editor@italiks.com.
Use the subject line: "[Fiction/Non-Fiction] Submission: [Title]."
Attach a short cover letter (.doc or .pdf) with:
Your word count.
A third-person bio (no need to summarize your work - we just want to get to know you!)
Word count: We don't limit creativity, but due to time and resources, we prefer submissions under 5,000 words.
Response time: We aim to respond within 14 days. If you haven't heard back by then, feel free to email use with the subject line "Status: [Title]."
Poetry and Other Creative Work Submissions
We love reading poetry and all forms of creative expression!
How to submit:
For poetry, you can submit up to three pieces in a single .doc or .pdf attachment.
Use the the subject line: "Poetry Submission: [Title]"
If your work doesn't fit into fiction, non-fiction, or poetry, just let us know how you classify it.
Artwork Submissions
We deeply appreciate artists who are willing to share their work with us. If accepted, we'll make sure to properly credit you and feature your work prominently.
Payment
We pay $5 per accepted piece (including artwork) upon publication. Payments are made via PayPal. As we grow, increasing contributor payments is one of our top priorities.
Beyond the Page: Italiks on Youtube
Whether you're commuting, unwinding, or just looking for a new way to experience storytelling, our YouTube channel makes it easy to listen to great writing anytime, anywhere. That's why all published stories are featured on our YouTube channel, with full author recognition. If your work is accepted, we encourage you to narrate your own piece for our audience. This is one way we're helping literature evolve and stay relevant in the digital age.
Rights
Upon publication, Italiks asks for One-Time, First Serial and Electronic Rights. After publication, all rights revert back to you.
Submission Fees
We will never charge a submission fee. However, if you'd like to support the journal, donations are greatly appreciated. They help us keep Italiks running and allow us to continue paying writers. If you choose to donate, we'd be happy to acknolwedge your support on our Donations page (optional).
